How to blur sensitive info in a screenshot

Screenshots often include things you did not mean to share: an email address in the corner, a phone number, a card on file. Here is how to hide them properly.

Blur it with PageSnap

  1. Capture the page with PageSnap. The editor opens.
  2. Open Tools and choose Auto-blur sensitive data. PageSnap finds emails, phone numbers, card numbers, IDs and password-like text and covers them.
  3. Check the result. Use the Blur tool to add anything it missed by dragging a box.
  4. Download the image.

Blur, pixelate or cover?

  • Solid cover is the safest for passwords and card numbers. Nothing is left to recover.
  • Pixelate is good for faces and long text, but use a strong setting.
  • Soft blur looks nicest. Use High on small text, because a light blur can sometimes be read back.

Check before you share

  • Look at the browser tab titles and address bar in the image.
  • Check hidden places such as the page title, notifications and the account menu.
  • Blur edits are flattened into the exported image, so the original text cannot be recovered from the file.

Frequently asked questions

Can blurred text in a screenshot be recovered?

A light blur can sometimes be reversed. Use a solid cover or a strong pixelate for passwords, card numbers and ID numbers.

Does PageSnap upload my screenshot to blur it?

No. Detection and blurring happen on your computer and nothing is uploaded.
