How to take a full page screenshot in Chrome
Chrome can show you a whole web page, but saving all of it as one image takes a few tricks. Here are three ways, from the fastest to the most manual.
Method 1: Use a full page screenshot extension (fastest)
An extension captures the entire page in one click, no matter how long it is. With PageSnap:
- Add PageSnap to Chrome and pin it to the toolbar.
- Open the page you want and click the PageSnap icon (or press Alt+Shift+P, Option+Shift+P on Mac).
- PageSnap scrolls the page, waits for images and animations to load, and stitches everything into one image.
- Edit if you like, then download it as a PNG, JPG or PDF, or copy it to the clipboard.
Fixed headers appear once at the top instead of repeating down the image, and long chats inside a scrolling panel are captured end to end.
Method 2: Chrome DevTools (no extension)
- Press F12 (or Ctrl+Shift+I) to open DevTools.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+P (Cmd+Shift+P on Mac) to open the command menu.
- Type screenshot and choose Capture full size screenshot.
This works for simple pages. It does not wait for lazy images, can repeat sticky headers, and gives you no editing.
Method 3: Scroll and stitch by hand
Take several normal screenshots while scrolling and join them in an image editor. It works everywhere, but it is slow and the seams rarely line up.
Common problems and fixes
- The menu bar repeats down the screenshot. That is a sticky header. PageSnap hides it after the first screen. In DevTools, you can hide it before capturing.
- Images are blank. The page loads pictures only when you scroll to them. PageSnap waits for them; with DevTools, scroll to the bottom first.
- Only part of a chat or web app is captured. The content scrolls inside a panel. PageSnap detects the scrolling panel and captures all of it.
- The image is huge. Very long pages can pass Chrome's size limits. PageSnap splits oversized exports into several files.
What to do next
Once you have the screenshot you can blur private details, copy the text out of it or save the page as a PDF.
